I stumbled upon this movie called College Saga while reading Kotaku. It’s a parody of RPGs in a college setting. The thing is split up into four parts that are about 10 minutes each, so it ends up being a 40 minute movie.
The great part about this movie is that it gets pretty much every gag right. Like the random NPCs just wandering back and forth, and the girl who says the same thing when you talk to her twice. Or the ludicrousness of some small object blocking your path, or how it seems normal to go into someone’s house (dorm room) and steal all of their stuff…
The movie makes heavy use of video game music and sound effects. It’s really sad because I could recognize where almost all of the music came from. You can watch College Saga in 10 minute bite size chunks, or just watch the whole thing right here:
This totally reminds me of my UNM RPG that I made for that video game class I took. I gotta post that online someday…
It’s been snowing a hella lot these past few days in New Mexico. On the worst day, we got like, more than 10 inches of snow! My brother was at work and couldn’t get his Miata out of the snow, so we had to go rescue him.
I recently got a Macbook as a graduation gift, so I decided to take some video and make a movie. I present to you, NM Snow Rescue!
Back when I was a media arts major (in 2002), I made a movie called “Hellevator.” It’s probably the crowning achievement of my career at UNM. I figured I should put it online for posterity, and include comments before I forget about what happened.
I skipped putting it on youtube, since the compression sucks. Here’s some of my director’s commentary:
The movie was actually based on a two-minute play that I and Brian Hesch wrote during drama class in high school. The idea was that the two characters would enter the elevator and then just “fall” for the entire thing. Needless to say, the script was reworked to make it more interesting.
I saw this on anandtech, and I’m pretty sure it’ll be everywhere soon. It’s a promotional thing for Snakes on a Plane. You give it some information and Samuel L. Jackson can either call or email a friend with a message saying that they have to watch Snakes on a Plane. It’s pretty entertaining hearing SLJ go insane about a movie starring himself.
Here’s one that I made using a fictional “Samuel” and his copilot “Johnny.”
It actually sounds pretty good for being one of those cut and paste customized messages. Mr. Jackson is very convincing, and I’m kinda scared that he’ll kill me if I don’t see Snakes on a Plane. This is pure genius viral marketing, right here. The only complaint I have is that SLJ doesn’t know how to say a lot of names. Including “Hung.” Oh, I guess it would’ve been cool if he had dropped the F-bomb a few times, or even if he just said “ass” instead of “butt.”
Oh, if you didn’t know, Snakes on a Plane is a movie. About snakes. On a plane. And Samuel L. Jackson’s in it. It’s already gained cult status for having a cheesy plot. I read somewhere that Samuel L. Jackson only agreed to do the movie because of the title. Now that’s what I call quality cinema.
