I tend to be generous with tags for indexing purposes, but I can see how a plethora of internal links can be annoying. I'll ask our tech team if there's any way to tag an item without autolinking the tagged words.

I actually disagree with your Facebook example -- facebook.com is not hard to find, and an archive of Facebook stories is more interesting -- but when I mention a company I've never written about, I agree, the first link ought to be to the company's website, not a nearly-empty index page about that company with just one story on it.</description>
